Women & the Wilderness

Aug 6, 2020

In this episode of Women & the Wilderness I am joined by Allison Lang; content creator, solo female traveler, and advocate for body inclusivity. Oh, and did I mention she’s a left below-the-knee amputee?

Born and raised in Alberta, she grew up hiking, snowboarding, and swimming in Banff and Jasper National Park. This ignited her passion for travel, she’s backpacked 29 countries thus far!

In this conversation, we discuss how she overcame severe bullying, body image insecurities, and a handful of surgeries which, in the end, led her to find her sense of independence and confidence.

Allison has personally eliminated the word “disabled” from her vocabulary and prefers to use “physical difference” instead because she believes that each obstacle is an opportunity.

She encourages others to ask questions and hopes to open up the conversation about amputation to normalize bodies that are physically different.
